Status: Sold

A decorative vintage ashtray and cigarette box set featuring finely embossed hunting scenes in relief. The set includes a rectangular cigarette or trinket box and a coordinating ashtray, both decorated with detailed imagery of mounted riders on horseback accompanied by hunting dogs in a countryside landscape. The scenes capture the traditional European fox-hunt motif, long associated with sporting culture and aristocratic leisure traditions. The ashtray is designed with four raised cigarette rests and an ornate scrollwork border surrounding the central relief scene. The matching box lid features a similar raised design depicting riders gathered on horseback with hounds nearby and a rural cottage in the background. Both pieces exhibit crisp relief detailing with textured backgrounds that emphasize the figures, horses, and landscape elements. The set is housed in its original presentation box lined with green felt, suggesting it was originally marketed as a gift item. Decorative sets such as these were commonly produced in Europe during the mid-20th century as stylish desk or smoking accessories, reflecting the era’s social customs around smoking and hospitality.
