Status: Sold

A charming inlaid wood marquetry box featuring a pastoral countryside scene, beautifully crafted with contrasting wood veneers and detailed linework. The lid depicts a rural vignette showing two figures walking beside a cow, carrying harvested wheat, evoking a traditional farming scene. The figures are enhanced with subtle color accents, including blue and warm earth tones, adding visual depth to the design. The decorative image is created using the marquetry technique, where thin pieces of contrasting woods are carefully cut and inlaid into the surface to form a detailed picture. This technique has been widely used in European decorative arts, particularly in Italian and Mediterranean souvenir boxes produced during the mid-20th century. The box is constructed from richly grained wood and fitted with a small clasp closure. Pieces like this were often produced as decorative keepsake or jewelry boxes, prized for their craftsmanship and warm natural wood tones.
